SkyManager defines an asset as an aircraft or aircraft simulator. Depending on your SkyManager subscription, you can add more assets to the system until you meet your license limit. This tutorial will walk you through the steps to add a new aircraft to your list of assets in SkyManager.

If you reach your license limit, additional licenses can be purchased at any time from your account manager. To request additional licenses, please email info@skymanager.com.

Begin by clicking on System Configuration in the Control Panel on the right side of the Home Page (Figure 1).

Figure 1. Aircraft can be added under System Configuration.

On the next page, click on the Aircraft link at the top of the page. You will then see a page listing any aircraft currently in your system (Figure 2). To create a new aircraft, click the add link at the bottom of the page.

Figure 2. Edit existing or create new aircraft in the system.

In the resulting pop-up window (Figure 3), complete the desired fields:

  • Aircraft Group: Use this field to indicate that this aircraft belongs to a common category with other aircraft in the system (e.g., you might group all your Cessna aircraft together). This allows the system to automatically substitute another aircraft from the same group if this aircraft is grounded for maintenance. Select an existing group or create a new one by selecting "New Group."
  • Model: Enter the aircraft model (e.g., C-172).
  • Designation: Enter the aircraft designation (e.g., N98765).
  • Aircraft Training Device (ATD): Select "No" if creating an aircraft or "Yes" if creating a simulator.
  • Empty Weight:  Enter the weight of the aircraft with no freight/passengers.
  • Center of Gravity: Enter the aircraft's center of gravity location in inches (e.g., 40).
  • Moment: Enter the aircraft's center of gravity moment (e.g., 110,000).
  • Schedulability: Select whether or not this aircraft can be scheduled. Note that this field may be overridden by settings applied to the aircraft group.
  • Visibility: Select when the aircraft should be visible to members when scheduling a flight. Note that this field may be overridden by settings applied to the aircraft group.
  • Maximum Hobbs: Select the maximum Hobbs reading for the aircraft.
  • Maximum Tach: Select the maximum Tach reading for the aircraft.
  • Total Time (TTAF): Enter the current total time airframe and Hobbs readings of the aircraft.
  • Rental Charge: Select an existing charge type to associate the rental charge type with the aircraft. Charge types are discussed in the previous section of this guide.
  • Fuel Charge: Select an existing charge type to associate the fuel charge type with the aircraft. Charge types are discussed in the previous section of this guide.
  • Fuel Surcharge Charge: Select an existing charge type to associate the fuel surcharge charge type with the aircraft. Charge types are discussed in the previous section of this guide.
  • Per Flight Charge: Select an existing charge type to associate the per-flight charge type with the aircraft. Charge types are discussed in the previous section of this guide.
  • Leaseback Owner: If the aircraft is privately owned and the owner of the aircraft is a member in the system, select that member here.

Figure 3. Complete the information for the aircraft and save it.

You can choose how much data to enter on each aircraft or simulator asset. You do not have to complete all fields, but Hobbs, Tach, and Rental Charges are important if you want SkyManager to be able to track expenses and maintenance.

When finished, click the Save Aircraft button at the bottom of the page. You will then be directed to the Aircrafts page, where your new aircraft will now be listed. In addition, if the aircraft is viewable, it will be listed as an option when scheduling a flight.

If you ever need to make changes to an existing aircraft, such as to edit its details or add it to a group with similar aircraft, simply click the edit link to the left of the aircraft. You can also edit a group name by clicking edit beside the group name.

The list of aircraft can be customized in three ways:

  1. If you are an administrator and want to view hidden aircraft and groups (e.g., because they're privately owned or reserved only for administrative use), check the Include hidden aircraft and groups checkbox.
  2. Select the "Scheduling Order" option in the Display Order drop-down menu to view the aircraft in order of scheduling priority. This view allows you to randomize the order in which they appear when scheduling (click Randomize) to help ensure SkyManager schedules all aircraft evenly rather than booking one asset much more than the others.
  3. Finally, you can change the order the aircraft appear in your list based on personal preference. To do so, click the small up/down arrows to the left of your aircraft to move the asset or group up or down in the list.
